You will experience the excitement of visiting places where great historic events actually happened, 25 centuries ago. You can see the Dionysus Theatre (the world's oldest theatre where great plays by Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides were first performed), or walk around the Pnyx (the birthplace of democracy) where Athenian citizens assembled and voted on major political issues. You can also stroll through the Agora (ancient marketplace) as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle once did. Or take an optional tour to Delphi. Delphi is one of the most important archeological sites in Greek history and is now a UNESCO World Heritage-listed town. In ancient times, Delphi was considered the place where heaven and earth met so the gods were closeby. Established around the 7th century BC, Delphi was a sanctuary to the god Apollo. It was here that the Oracle of Delphi was situated, the most trusted oracle in the ancient world from which the spirit of Apollo gave advice on everything from domestic matters to wars. Along with our guide, you’ll explore, the home of the Temple of Apollo, and learn all about Greek mythology and history while viewing ancient and fascinating monuments. (B)

Day 4 Athens/Mykonos
After breakfast, we drive to Piraeus, the port of Athens, and embark your cruise ship. Sail to the picturesque isle of Mykonos. Mykonos's many captivating attributes make it one of the most celebrated Greek holiday islands. Its main village is a colorful maze of narrow streets lined with white-washed houses, many with bright blue doors and shutters. As an attractive backdrop, famous windmills are lined up like toy soldiers on the hillside, vestiges of a time when wind power was used to grind grain. Mykonos has churches and chapels scattered about the island; quite a number of them are located right in town. Radiant flowers spill over white-washed walls and shady courtyards. In addition to swimming, sunning, water-skiing and surfing, visitors find endless shopping opportunities. Artists have relied on Mykonos’ beautiful setting to inspire them. The most photographed site is the Paraportiani, a cluster of whitewashed churches resting below windmills. Mykonos' museums include an Archaeological Museum, which houses relics from the Trojan War, a Folk Art Museum and a Maritime Museum. The best beaches are Aghios Stephanos, Psarou, Kalafatis, Onros, Panormos and Elia. Sail in the evening. (B,L,D)

Day 5 Kusadasi/Patmos
This morning we arrive on the continent of Asia and to Kusadasi, Turkey, located nearby Ephesus, one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World”. The major attraction is the archaeological site of ancient Ephesus, considered to be the most important in Turkey. The history of this ancient city dates back to 10th century BC; many remarkable structures seen today are a result of an excavation and restoration program. There are temples, houses of noblemen, and community buildings lining ancient streets. Nestled in the mountainside is a 25,000-seat amphitheater, still used for performances during Festival of Culture and Art. Bible buffs may know Ephesus as inspiration for St. Paul’s Epistle to Ephesians and the site of one of the first seven churches of Asia Minor. Among the better-known ancient sites near Kusadasi are ancient Miletus and Dydima. Remains include a well-preserved Roman theater at Miletus and Dydima's sacred temple of Apollo. Wander through the famous Turkish bazaar or enjoy an optional tour of Ephesus and the house of the Virgin Mary. Optional excursions to visit these sites are available. This afternoon sail to Patmos, site of the Monastery of St. John the Divine and the Grotto of the Apocalypse. Evening departure for Rhodes. (B,L,D)

Day 6 Rhodes
A day on the Island of Roses, famed for its Medieval Old Town, great shopping and ancient sites. Only 20 miles from the Turkish coast, this island is very popular with both vacationers and cruise passengers for its lively entertainment, excellent beaches, flowers, hills and historical sites. The island has a fairly active artists' colony, and it's not uncommon to come across a painter at work. Much of its flavor and architecture arrived with the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, who occupied it from 1310-1522. In the capital, Rodos, see the medieval quarter of Old Town and the Agios Nikolas Tower, which stands where the Colossus of Rhodes once stood. Optional visits are available to the Temple of Athena on the majestic Acropolis of Lindos, overlooking the Bay of Paul or the Old Town and Philerimos. Sail in the evening. (B,L,D)

Day 7 Crete/Santorini
This morning we make a call at Greece’s largest island, Crete. Here you have an optional visit of Knossos and the Palace of King Minos or enjoy a taste of Crete. Later you sail for the volcanic island of Santorini. The barren rocky cliffs rise straight out of the blue Aegean, their tops are dusted by what at first looks like a sprinkling of snow. The snow takes the shape of Cycladic buildings hanging precariously off the hillsides. Santorini owes its geological peculiarities to a massive volcanic explosion some 3,500 years ago that blew out the center of the island. The cliffs that jut out of the sea are what's left of the crater rim. The surrounding islands are what remain of the other sides of the crater, and the sea has filled in the gaps, forming a beautiful bay. The island's spectacular setting has made it one of the most visited islands in Greece. (B,L,D)

Day 8 Athens
Disembark after breakfast in Piraeus, the seaport for Athens, the capital of western civilization, which boasts a fantastic mix of classical ruins and vivacious modern life.
