Day 2 Nice
This morning you will discover the picture-postcard city of Nice during your guided tour. Start with a visit to Castel Park overlooking the Bay of Angels and Old Town, site of the trading town founded by the Greeks 2,700 years ago. Immerse yourself in Nice's history on Place Garibaldi in the Old Town and marvel at the modern New Town as you stroll along Promenade des Arts, home to the Modern Art Museum, Sosno’s library and the Acropolis center. Visit the extraordinary Russian Cathedral, the most beautiful outside of Russia, and return by Promenade des Anglais passing its famous landmarks and "Belle Epoque" buildings. Your tour will end with a visit of the colorful flower market in Cours Saleya. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at hotel. (B,D)

Day 3 Nice – Optional Villefranche, Cap Ferrat, Monte Carlo Excursion
Full day at leisure to relax or to join an optional day excursion. The first stop will be in Villefranche. There’s quite a Medieval feeling in Villefranche. The city’s long and rich history as a major sea port is visible everywhere you look with quiet little squares and Place de l’Eglise that has a bench circling a beautiful big tree. We continue to Cap Ferrat. Like a long arm jutting into the Mediterranean, it separates the bay of Villefranche and that of Beaulieu, about half way between Nice and Monaco. Here we will visit the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. Built by a very wealthy French socialite, between 1905 and 1912, it sits at the top of a narrow isthmus dominating the sea that provides stunning views both east towards Beaulieu and Italy and west towards the deep waters of the Bay of Villefranche and its ancient harbor. After lunch in a local restaurant, our next stop will be in Monte Carlo. Monaco is an independent principality about half the size of New York City’s Central park; with a population of 27,000. Monte Carlo is the site of the well-known casino and glittering center of international social life. All of Monaco is contained within an area of less than 1 square mile. Our city tour will include the 19th Century Romanesque Cathedral, famous for the sight of Princess Grace’s tomb. The last stop will be in Eze, a medieval village perched 1,000 feet above the Mediterranean Sea for fantastic views. Overnight in Nice. (B)

Day 4 Nice/Cannes/St. Paul-de-Vence/Grasse/Nice
Our morning begins with a city tour of Cannes. “Discovered” by Lord Brougham in 1834, Cannes soon became a community for the international elite and is synonymous with the International Film Festival. We will see the Palais des Festivals with its lovely harbor and La Croisette, perhaps one of the most elegant seaside promenades in the world. The Old Town – le Suquet – is still a delicious maze of Medieval streets and Renaissance houses. We continue to St. Paul-de-Vence. The picturesque medieval village of St. Paul-de-Vence stands hidden behind its ramparts and is “Provence in a nutshell”. It was rediscovered only in the 1920’s by a group of painters, including Chagall, who lived here and is entombed here. Our last stop will be in Grasse to learn about the perfume industry. Grasse is the center of the French perfume industry and is known as the world’s perfume capital. The world’s finest “noses” reside here. A “nose” is the correct name for a person highly trained in the art of perfumery in Grasse. These “noses” can identify and classify hundreds of fragrances, subtly blended together in a harmonious combination, while fine perfumes can contain more than 100 ingredients. Grasse produces over two-thirds of France’s natural aromas for perfume and for food flavorings. Overnight in Nice. (B)

Day 5 Nice – Optional Italian Riviera Excursion

After crossing the border between France and Italy, we stop in Ventimiglia for a visit of the Hanbury Gardens, a botanical garden created by an English family in 1867. Continue to San Remo, the elegant capital of the Italian Riviera. Its main attractions are its almost continual sunshine, warm climate, hotels and villas, marina, spa centers, race course and casino. Return to Nice for overnight. (B)

Day 6 Nice – Optional Provence Excursion
